Collected by Thea Westreich Wagner and Ethan Wagner at Whitney Museum of American Art, November 20, 2015 – March 6, 2016

“Over the past three decades, Thea Westreich Wagner and Ethan Wagner have been very astute collectors of contemporary art. This exhibition presents a selection from their recent gifts of nearly five hundred fifty works by American artists to the Whitney Museum, and more than three hundred works by European artists to the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Since they began collecting in the 1980s, Westreich Wagner and Wagner have consistently focused their attention on emerging artists, acquiring works soon after they were made, often following visits to artists’ studios.” — Whitney Museum of American Art
